About me and my treatments

I believe that the point of life is to be happy, however life sends us all sorts of challenges that we have to overcome. Pain and stress prevent us from enjoying life to the full.  My treatments help people improve their quality of life, so they can reach their full potential.

I have an integrative approach to health care and use a flexible combination of Massage , Reflexology and Craniosacral Therapy in my treatments. The client can choose just one or a combination of all I offer, often clients will leave the decision up to me and I can intuitively give them what they need.

I am very experienced, having been working as a qualified massage therapist continually since 2001, which is when I first joined Mardi at Brixton Therapy Centre (apart from about 6 months after the birth of each of my children :)). I trained with Clare Maxwell-Hudson at her prestigious school in Marylebone.  I trained as a reflexologist with the International Institute of Reflexology in 2002.  I studied Cranio-sacral therapy with Thomas Atlee at the Institute of Cranio-Sacral Therapy in London in 2011.  I am fully insured and a member of the Independent Professional Therapists International.

In my personal life I enjoy being with my family, singing and playing the guitar with my band Emma and The Hot Tub Men, taking photos, writing poetry, going for long walks in the woods, going to festivals and visiting new places.

I receive regular treatments myself, use homeopathy and meditate, to keep myself as uncluttered as possible.  I take part in regular workshops and am continually developing as a professional.

What to expect from a treatment with Emma

After a consultation with each client, she focuses on areas which are causing the most discomfort, or just uses her heightened sense of touch to discern where knots lie and gently but firmly massage them away. She can also include a face or stomach massage if the client requires.  Treatments are customised for each individual client and how they are feeling that particular day. Craniosacral therapy is often given at the beginning and/or end of the treatment and reflexology is offered if there are internal issues to be resolved. Many clients have a series of 4 treatments at weekly intervals to begin with then go on to having monthly treatments thereafter. Treatments are from 30 minutes to three hours.

Emma often uses visualization techniques with focus on the breath and positive affirmations to assist with relaxation, and sometimes even uses her voice, for example singing and toning, to help keep the client present and assist with the relaxation process. This varies from person to person and is in no way an obligatory part of the treatment.

She has many regular clients, often office workers with problems relating to their posture and sedentary lifestyle, or people who feel they are holding themselves back and would like to move forwards. She also offers listening and life coaching during sessions, if a client feels like talking, as well as advice on postural awareness, exercises and diet tips to achieve a healthier and happier ideal you.

She treats pregnant women, the elderly, teenagers, babies, as well as people with special educational needs e.g. Down’s syndrome, autism, MS and PTSD.

“I love my work, I love people and it shows! My clients often don’t want to leave! However when they do they feel rejuvenated, relaxed, invigorated, healed, relieved and overall happy.”

She can offer a certain number of concessions during the day for those on a low income and a discount if monthly treatments are paid for in advance, if requested, as well as gift vouchers and home visits, good for those unable to travel or walk up the stairs at the Brixton Therapy Centre.

Here she offers a few tips to make yourself feel better now….

  • Sit up, stand up and walk straight, pretend you have an elastic band attaching your head to the sky, or a beam of light coming out of your head, it improves confidence.

  • BREATHE – learn how to breathe ‘properly’ e.g. through yoga, meditation or singing lessons

  • Drink 4-7 glasses of water a day

  • Take regular exercise

  • Eat a healthy balanced diet

  • Meditate

  • Have a massage

  • Have fun

  • Think positive!

Thanks for looking me up and hope to meet you for a treatment soon,

all the best,

Emma.
