Massage

Massage as well as being lovely, is good for you and helps you deal with stress more easily. It relieves stiffness and tension in muscles and can help you sleep better. People are less likely to take days off sick and more likely to feel like they can handle pressure if they have regular massages. Massage helps to flush adrenaline out of your body, the fight or flight hormone, which builds up if you are suffering from regular stress and can be toxic, causing poor sleep and many health problems. We are social beings and the healing power of touch should also not be underestimated, we are supposed to feel touch and in today’s society that fact is getting harder to achieve.

The Father of Modern Medicine, Hippocrates, believed that regular exercize, a balanced diet and ‘regular rubbing’ contributed to a healthy life, he also ascertained that different people had different responses to life and it’s challenges; some people can cope more easily with stress, for others a regular massage can make the difference between being able to enjoy daily life and finding it overwhelming.

Stress is the most common source of disease in our society and can manifest as a physical, psychological or social dysfunction resulting in individuals feeling unable to cope with the requirements or expectations placed upon them.

According to research: “British businesses lost the equivalent of £81bn as a result of ill-health related absence and presenteeism in 2018 overall, coming from factors such as depression, poor lifestyle choices, and stress.

83% of people who used one-on-one coaching to support mental health and wellbeing found it impactful and 78% of people said the same for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). 83% of employees who used massage or relaxation classes also said it had a positive impact on their mental health at work.”
